Spray Booth Products (SBP), located in Redford, MI, has been making its mark in the industrial painting and coating market for fourteen years. In today’s competitive marketplace, SBP differentiates itself by tailoring and personalizing its service to each unique customer, offering a turnkey solution and diversifying its offering portfolio, which ranges from individual shops to industrial grade painting and coating booths, climate control and curation systems, air-makeup systems, collection systems, air filtration systems, telematic airflow sensor solutions, HVAC units, facility layout and design services, and other air management solutions.
SBP was founded in 2007 by Ken Mikols to fill an important but underserved part of the industrial value chain. Throughout the Midwest, many companies of all sizes offer painting and coating products but often fall short of tailoring solutions to meet the unique needs of the business and the unique constraints of the space, particularly in large, industrial applications. Automotive OEM painting and coating managers, body shop owners utilizing refinish technology, and everyone in between are ready-made for booth solutions and have relied on SBP to deliver. Prior to founding SBP, Ken had been working in the industry since 1998 but saw an opportunity to provide more customized services and serve a more diverse customer base with ever-expanding needs. Today, SBP is hyper-focused on how its solutions impact its customers’ productivity, efficiency, quality control, and long-term partnerships, as well as other success metrics.
To that end, SBP starts its engagement with a detailed assessment of its prospective customer’s business and operational needs and goals, followed up with careful installation planning. Typically, some degree of shut down is required while SBP performs an install, even if it’s a spray booth, a large air makeup unit or a commercial grade kitchen hood job. In talking to Mike Gervais and Jairus Mikols of SBP they explained, “We understand what it means to have a solid execution plan, and we set the proper expectations with our customers. Not only are we thinking of how our interaction and installation will play into our client’s production schedule, but we also plan to be there for our customers after the engagement. We always provide full, turnkey solutions and services for our customers with an eye toward long-term success.” Mikols went on to say, “This was always core to Dad’s way of working. This type of planning and forethought has afforded us the opportunity to work with names such as General Motors, Paslin, Detroit Department of Transportation, Tesla and many more.”
Fast forward almost 20 years and Jairus Mikols, Ken’s oldest son, has stepped in to take the SBP reins. Jairus has the same vision on client service, and his focus on innovation and extensibility of traditional solutions is helping take SBP to the next level. Jairus said recently, “We’re adding products and customers to our line card every day, and we are really becoming a general contractor that can design, build and maintain a project from cradle to grave. We are family owned. We started in Redford on 8 Mile Road with only 3,000 square feet of shop space, and not only have we expanded to over five times our original space, but we’re already thinking about another expansion.”
Ken is the patriarch of the company but is transitioning out of the daily operations, confident Jairus will lead SBP and adapt to ever-changing market dynamics. Jairus has put a team of experienced people around him as he looks to expand the company’s capabilities and client base, for this generation, and the next.
A Michigan and Midwest regional success story to be sure, Spray Booth Products (SBP) has the experience, products and capabilities to handle your next painting and coating project as well as your sophisticated air management needs.
